Hawaii County Civil Defense has reported 29 new cases of COVID-19 on the Big Island today.
Thirteen individuals are hospitalized.
While Civil Defense said Hawaii Island’s COVID-related death toll remained at 40, Life Care Center of Hilo reported two additional COVID-related deaths on Wednesday.
According to an update on the facility’s website, there have now been seven resident deaths.
“Sadly, we lost two more of our beloved residents,” Executive Director Mark Mann wrote in the update. “Our hearts remain broken as we mourn with their loved ones.”
Life Care has reported 54 cases in its residents since late September. Of those, 36 are at the facility, one resident is receiving treatment at Hilo Medical Center, two have been discharged and eight have recovered.
Seventeen employees also have tested positive, 13 of whom have fully recovered.
